Dentistry for Kids
Kids need to feel comfortable with the dentist at a young age. The ADA encourages children to see a dentist as soon as the first tooth erupts, or at least within six months of getting a tooth. If your child does not have any teeth by the time he or she is 12 months old, it is time for an appointment then too. At SmileCOS Dentistry, we offer kind, gentle, and encouraging dental care for children of all ages, helping your child to feel comfortable with us.
Dental Care and Training
When you bring your child in to see us, we do more than clean their teeth. Our appointments are time to get to know one another so that your child feels comfortable in the dental chair as that is half of the battle. We help your child feel as comfortable as possible so that going to the dentist is as normal as any other habit they have. We want to set your child up for proper oral hygiene habits moving forward.
At the first appointment, we may start out counting your child’s teeth or touching each one with the explorer (a non-invasive dental tool) to check on the integrity of each tooth. We will talk to your child throughout the entire process, ensuring his or her comfort the entire time. If your child feels nervous or uneasy, we will stop and talk through it with him or her to ensure complete comfort. We can always show the tools or discuss the next step before doing any work in your child’s mouth.
We also train your child to have proper oral healthcare. It often helps to have a professional talk to your child about the importance of mundane things, such as brushing and flossing his or her teeth. Hearing it from the dentist makes kids realize the importance of it, increasing the likelihood that they will follow through on the necessary oral healthcare.
Using One Dentist
We work hard so that kids get used to us and are comfortable with us working in their mouth. When you have one dental home, kids have less anxiety about what might happen in the dental chair. They already know our office is a safe and comfortable atmosphere.
In addition to the standard dental exam and cleanings, we offer cavity fillings, simple tooth extractions, and dental sealants. We also offer emergency services should you need a dentist in a pinch. If your child knocks a tooth out or has sudden uncontrollable pain in his or her mouth, we can help resolve the issue quickly and painlessly to reduce the stress that a dental emergency can cause.
If you want your child to come to a safe and gentle dentist, call SmileCOS Dentistry at (719) 394-3304 today.
