Porcelain Crown Colorado Springs CO

Rendering of jaw with porcelain crown at SmileCOS Dentistry in Colorado Springs, CO. If you are tired of the appearance of your chipped or broken teeth, talk to Andrew Miller, DDS or Francisco Darquea, DDS at SmileCOS Dentistry about getting dental crowns. As the name suggests, the dental crown covers the top of your tooth and can hide issues that cause your teeth to look uneven or broken.

Different Dental Crown Materials

We offer dental crowns in a variety of materials. The type we recommend depends on the location of the tooth (posterior or anterior) and the look you want to achieve. We typically create crowns in resin or porcelain material as they both offer the most natural appearance, blending in with the rest of the teeth. In some cases, we also offer crowns in alloy or gold material, especially for crowns on the rear teeth.

Cosmetic Reasons for a Dental Crown

Dental crowns are a somewhat invasive procedure, but they can help with a variety of cosmetic issues. Our dentists help patients choose dental crowns when they have cracked or chipped teeth that make their smile unsightly, stained teeth, oddly shaped teeth, or weak teeth that could break easily.

We offer dental crowns that we make specifically for you. While the process takes a little longer (two appointments), our lab creates customized crowns that fit your mouth. After taking an impression of your mouth, we send the mold to the lab. The technicians use the mold to create crowns that look just like the other teeth in your mouth. This way, when you laugh, talk, or smile, no one will know the difference.

How Dental Crowns are Different

We offer a variety of dental restoration procedures, but dental crowns are the sturdiest. While they are slightly more invasive than dental bonding or dental veneers, they offer a much sturdier option. You will still have to watch what you eat and how you care for the crowns, but they can withstand more pressure than dental bonding or dental veneers. This makes it possible to eat your favorite foods without having to alter your diet too much.

Dental crowns do require more work, however. You will need two appointments to complete the process. The first appointment prepares your tooth and creates the mold to send to the lab. The second appointment is when the crowns arrive in our office, and we place them in your mouth. You may have a few follow up appointments for adjustments if the crown does not fit just right, but our dentists do their best to make sure you have a comfortable fit.

Benefits of Dental Crowns

Cosmetic dental procedures offer functional benefits too. Dental crowns help even out your teeth, which makes chewing easier, and can even improve your digestion. Crowns can also help increase your self-esteem because you do not have to worry about being embarrassed when you talk or smile.
