Do Aligners Really Work?

Posted on 9/5/2022 by SmileCOS Dentistry
Do Aligners Really Work?I am sure when aligners first started being offered as treatment, people were wondering what the heck was going on. Is that a piece of plastic clicked over either my upper or lower teeth? That thing is going to shift and move teeth like braces? No way. Well, they were wrong.

People Trust Aligners To Do Their Job

Aligners have become a multi-billion-dollar industry for a variety of reasons. Sure, traditional braces are still used, but at this point, they are in the rearview mirror. There is a new kid in town and the kid is taking the world by storm. There are many benefits of using aligners but the biggest ones are removable, shorter treatment time, less abrasive to soft tissues, never need adjustments, and no pain or discomfort.

The fact aligners can be removed is a huge benefit from an oral hygiene standpoint. Patients can take them out while flossing and brushing their teeth. Unlike traditional braces which stay affixed to the teeth forcing patients to brush and floss around them, aligners simply pop out, giving free access. Also, patients can avoid the embarrassment of getting food stuck while wearing traditional braces. Simply take out the aligners while eating.

The length of treatment is significantly decreased when patients wear aligners versus traditional braces. In most cases, the treatment is completed in six to twelve months.

While metal wires and brackets irritate the interior of the cheek and gums, aligners are made to the exact specifications of the patient's mouth. They are simply swapped out, every few weeks, for a new one to maintain the pressure. They never need to be adjusted, just swapped out.

In Conclusion

If you are considering orthodontic work and aren't looking at aligners, you are doing yourself a disservice. Patients love the flexibility, comfort, and most importantly results. Check into them. You won't be disappointed.
