What Happens at Dental Checkups

Posted on 1/24/2022 by SmileCOS Dentistry
What Happens at Dental CheckupsRegular dental checkups are necessary for good oral health, a healthy smile, and an excellent appearance. Visiting the dentist should not be intimidating; a dentist will examine you to determine if your teeth are in good health. Regular dental checks, at least twice a year, can assist a dentist in identifying any current or potential oral problems. For example, if you have gingivitis, a milder form of gum disease, you can quickly reverse it. On the other hand, periodontal disease is a severe kind of gum disease that can lead to tooth loss, extraction, and even implant dentistry.

Dental exam

Your gums will then be examined. The depth of the spaces between your teeth and gums will be measured using special equipment. The spaces between the teeth are shallow in those who have healthy gums. Gum disease can cause the gaps between the teeth to widen. A thorough inspection of your tongue, throat, face, head, and neck should also be included in the examination. This is to check for any indicators of problems, such as swelling, redness, or cancer signals.

Cleanings

At your appointment, your teeth will be cleaned as well. Brushing and flossing help remove plaque from your teeth, but tartar is impossible to remove at home. Your dental professional will use special equipment called a scaler to eliminate tartar during the cleaning. This is referred to as scaling. Your teeth may be polished after they have been scaled. This is usually done with a coarse paste. It aids in the removal of surface stains on the teeth. Flossing is the last stage. Floss will be used by your hygienist to ensure that the spaces between your teeth are clean.

Our dentists will take you through dental checks in a manner you will always be looking forward to more appointments.
