Why Do I Need a Sinus Lift

Posted on 11/22/2021 by SmileCOS Dentistry
Why Do I Need a Sinus LiftThe procedure to do a sinus lift is done to correct the position of a person's teeth or jaw. We can also use it to increase the size of their mouth by pulling up bone and tissue from behind their upper teeth, which will give them more room for their tongue and lips. This is an outpatient surgery that requires general anesthesia so that you won't have much pain afterward. The surgery will take about three hours, but you should only need one night in the hospital before going home! Do you want to know whether this procedure can be of use to you or a loved one? Read on!

What is a sinus lift?

Sinus lifts are a common procedure for restoring the form and function of your denture while also preventing future dental problems. A sinus lift helps restore some lost bone in areas with no tooth left to support a bridge or implant. The same principles apply when replacing missing teeth with implants. When a tooth has been lost due to periodontal disease or an accident, the surrounding alveolar bone will undergo resorption over time as part of the body's natural healing process.

How Can It Benefit Me?

There are many reasons why one might want to get a sinus lift. The most common reason is that the implant used for your dental bridge has failed, and it needs to be replaced. Another good example would be missing some teeth around the area where the implants need to go. In this case, we could use the sinus lift to protect the implant while waiting for it to heal.

There are also some cases where your dentist might suggest getting a sinus lift if you have excessive bone loss in that area or there is no room left between the teeth and the top of your mouth. This will help give more support when placing implants into that position.

If you are looking for more information about why you might need a sinus lift and how we can help your case, please feel free to contact our office today! We will do everything we can to answer any questions and provide all necessary treatment options moving forward with your oral health care.
