Times Where Veneers Are the Right Answer for a Dental Imperfection

Posted on 12/21/2020 by SmileCOS Dentistry
Times Where Veneers Are the Right Answer for a Dental ImperfectionVeneers are thin shells that cover teeth. Generally, veneers solve cosmetic problems such as discoloration or oddly-shaped teeth. There are instances – both cosmetic and orthodontic – where veneers are a great solution. However, there are factors to consider before veneers can be implanted. For more information about veneers, contact our office for a consultation.

Situations Where Veneers Are A Great Solution

Veneers work well for teeth that have been discolored and do not respond to other options such as professional bleaching. Veneers can also handle mild cases of misaligned teeth. Veneers can cover teeth that are chipped, cracked, or have some other imperfection pertaining to shape or size. Veneers can also protect teeth that have been worn down due to factors such as bruxism. Finally, veneers protect teeth that have are hypocalcified, meaning that the enamel on the teeth is not hardening like it does on healthy teeth.

When Not to Use Veneers

Veneers are not recommended for patients with severe oral health problems such as tooth decay or gum disease. These are not problems that can merely be covered by a cap, so patients will need to work with our team to control the oral health problems before veneers can be considered. Also, patients with moderate to severe bruxism might not be good candidates, as the excess grinding could damage the veneers. There may be cases where additional efforts – such as using a custom nightguard or a CPAP machine – might make veneers a safe option. Finally, veneers are not a substitute for crowns, so they should not be placed on teeth with significant structural damage such as severe cavities or a tooth that received a root canal.

If you have a question about veneers or any oral health problems that might be addressed by veneers, contact our office. Our team will examine your mouth and recommend a dental health plan that is best for you.
